A Pleasant Carpark in Porto

on
December 14, 2017

I met my friend Chris at the Airport and headed straight for the centre of Porto. I’d found a nice place to camp just outside the centre along the side of the Douro river.

There was an interesting abandoned building behind the parking area so we had a quick explore before heading into town. It reminded me of the artwork from a drum and bass release I’ve got on vinyl. Nature, slowly reclaiming disused buildings.

The Luis I bridge which links Gaia with Porto is really impressive!

And the view from the top wasn’t bad either.

We drank several ‘Fino’s’ (a beer in a tall, thin, glass) and ate Francesinhas which were delicious but I can only describe as something you’d make if you came home drunk and with a furious hunger. Each restaurant has its own variation but essentially it’s a sandwich in white bread with salami, chorizo, steak, fresh sausage and ham covered in a spicy tomato and beer sauce, melted cheese and topped with a fried egg. It’s pretty intense!

I loved it here and will definitely come back to explore some more but with just under a week to get to Lisbon we headed south. Until next time Porto!
